A man of many talents, Steve Flamsteed’s most recent honour bestowed upon him was being named the 2016 Gourmet Traveller Winemaker of the Year.
His other talents include being a professionally trained chef, a former cheese-maker, restaurateur in France and aspiring circus performer, but don’t let that last one put you off.
While studying winemaking at Roseworthy Agricultural College, Flamsteed worked as a chef at Maggie Beer’s Pheasant Farm Restaurant in the Barossa, sharpening his passion for the less-is-more style of producing, where more attention and care in the crop means less intervention when the fruit comes to processing.
This quiet revolutionary is a champion of exceptional wine; he looks for drinkability first and foremost, and faults are only found if searched for.
