Eat, drink and discover the wonders of sourdough at a one-off Fleurieu Peninsula event showcasing heritage wheat and traditional technique.
A Day on the Grain will be held at McLaren Flat’s Woodstock Winery, about an hour’s drive from Adelaide. You’ll begin with a welcome glass of Twiggy sparkling blanc de blancs ahead of a sourdough masterclass led by Small World Bakery co-owner Emily Salkeld. This hands-on experience will cover everything from the bread’s starter to the age-old process of baking in the wood-fired oven. Salkeld is passionate about improving transparency across the Australian grain-growing industry and sharing farmers’ stories. Next up is morning tea prepared by Woodstock executive chef Christopher Bone, who will offer estate-grown produce, native ingredients and heritage grains. Leave room for lunch — it will follow at the celebrated Coterie restaurant, which was designed to nestle into towering century-old gum trees. Bone’s menu features honest, seasonal and skilful dishes that draw on the local bounty. Enjoy a glass of wine with your meal and take in views across both vineyard and the estate’s native wildlife sanctuary. Stretch your legs after lunch with a stroll around the property. A loaf of fresh-baked sourdough and a Woodstock bag of goodies will join you on the journey home.
