Twelve courses. Six sake pairings. One very good time. Izakaya Night at Yakitori Takumi is the rollicking Japanese feast of your dreams: dishes singing with South Australian produce and an imported drinks selection that means business.
This North Adelaide favourite has been welcoming diners since 2004, when it became the first Australian restaurant to specialise in skewers grilled over charcoal. Yakitori Takumi delivers a traditional but relaxed take on Japanese dining, one where fun never comes at the expense of a delicious meal. The restaurant is compact, with lanterns by the entrance and dark wood inside; guests are drawn to its cosy seats and glowing grill. Izakayas are Japan’s answer to the pub: casual, welcoming and open to all.
Izakaya Night as part of Tasting Australia presented by RAA Travel will see plates featuring the likes of Angus beef and Berkshire pork paired with sake from Japanese sources including Niigata and Yamaguchi. It’s a perfect chance to catch up with friends and indulge in a time-honoured cultural tradition — one that will transport you to the streets of Tokyo. As the restaurant’s owners say: “Takumi brings everyone together: the wife, the husband, the cat and the drunken mates.”
