The Tasting Table: French Connection
3.00pm - 4.00pm
French flair is always appreciated in South Australia – especially when expressed in wine.
In this Tasting Australia masterclass you’ll share wines from two French-born producers whose paths have led our way.
Xavier Bizot – part of the family that owns Champagne Bollinger – has lived in the Adelaide Hills since 2005 with his wife Lucy Croser. Together they run the Terre à Terre and Daosa labels, the latter focusing on sparkling wines made from Piccadilly Valley grapes. Bizot will delve into the classic methods used to produce Daosa, the Adelaide Hills’ strength as a wine region and how his wines are continuing to evolve.
Yale Norris and his family moved to Kangaroo Island from Colorado in 2011. He quickly met French-born Islander Estate founder Jaques Lurton and took on the role of winery general manager a year later. Today Norris is also a winemaker, viticulturalist, mechanic and sales director for the business. He’ll be on hand to talk all things Islander Estate, including Lurton’s passion for the region and belief it’s comparable to parts of Languedoc-Rousillon in southern France.
Islander Estate’s vineyards were sadly destroyed by a bushfire that swept across Kangaroo Island in January 2020. A huge rebuilding and recovery effort continues, with plenty of bottles from the James Halliday five-star winery to enjoy in the meantime.
