Henschke's success amongst the uncertainty
Between the 2019 bushfires and this years COVID-19 pandemic, Henschke has had some testing times over the last few months. But amongst it all they've had some well deserved wins including being ranked in the top 20 of the prestigious 'World’s Most Admired Wine Brands 2020' list.
“Henschke’s single vineyard Hill of Grace Shiraz is among an elite band of Australian wines which compete alongside the very best fine wines in the world ..." - Drinks International
For the third time running, Henschke also received the award for ‘Star Cellar Door’ in the Eden Valley region in Gourmet Travellers 'Australia's Best Cellar Door Awards'.
On 6 May 2020, Henschke will release their 2015 vintage of Henschke Hill of Grace Shiraz which is their 54th release of the Hill of Grace. It was handpicked from 17-26 March 2015 with the final pick taking place a week before the harvest moon of Easter.
Here is the 2020 vintage report from Stephen Henschke:
Henschke 2020 Vintage Report
“Vintage 2020 has certainly tested us! Ninety percent of our 25-hectare Lenswood vineyard was burnt by the December 2019 Adelaide Hills bushfires, and now we have our vintage team split into two groups and working in isolation to ensure that we make it through to the finish line, which is well in sight now.
This vintage has been like no other we have seen before… I commend our staff for the resilience they have shown throughout this period. We have had extremely small yields from the Eden Valley and Barossa Valley (less than 2019), due to the hot, windy weather during flowering, causing poor set.
In saying that, I think we can keep our heads held high as the fruit that has come in has been of exceptional quality; clean, balanced and complex. Stand out varieties have been riesling, pinot gris, shiraz, mataro and grenache. Keep any eye out for these! Our rieslings will be released around spring-time…”
