South Australia’s winners at delicious. Produce Awards

LAST month, some 120 Australian producers were recognised for excellence at the delicious. Produce Awards.

With four themes – Dairy, Paddock, Sea and Earth – the awards set out to highlight the new and native products from unsung heroes in the industry.

For its 13th year, 19 South Australian businesses received awards, including a number who participated in Tasting Australia 2018.

Scott De Bruin from Mayura Station was one of them.

“It’s a wonderful recognition,” De Bruin says.

“And it’s great to be there along with some of the best producers in the country.”

Mayura Station, which was a part of the inaugural Tasting Australia Airlines experience, is known worldwide for their full-blood Wagyu beef.

“When people try a Mayura steak, we want them to try it and go ‘wow, we’ve never had a steak like that before,’” he says.

“Our goal is excellence without compromise, and it has been since we started importing from Japan in 1998.”

It’s safe to say the brand has excelled with their goal, winning a number of medals at a national level.

Recognition goes to the Signature Series, with extremely high levels of marbling, a silky smooth texture and unrivalled juiciness.

“One of the things that makes our product so unique is we feed chocolate to the cattle, which gives a really nutty, sweet flavour,” he says.

“We’ve shown really strong consistency with the quality of product that we produce, and we’ve given people the real ‘wow’ experience… to me, that’s what it’s all about.”

Alongside Mayura Station, Boston Bay Smallgoods Company’s free range pork and Section28 Artisan Cheeses’ primavera were also awarded who were involved in the eating and drinking festival this year.
