Riverland Learn more about the Riverland

Indulge yourself and relax on “river time”: the Riverland is where the cool waters of the Murray River feed wetlands and floodplain forests, and warm sandy landscapes transform into vineyards, citrus and almond groves. Sample delicious fruits, chocolates, nuts, lavender, wines and more.

Discover the region’s outstanding produce at roadside stalls and hotels. If you prefer to hunt than gather, set up camp along the red gum lined creeks and riverbanks, cook your catch on a camp fire and settle under the stars for the night.

Experience the Riverland

Relaxing along the Murray River can be thirsty work, and nothing quenches a thirst better than a cold beer or a drop of delicious wine. Luckily, you’ll find both in the Riverland.

The Riverland has two microbreweries located along the banks of the Murray River. The Wilkadene Woolshed Brewery is a short drive from Renmark at Murtho, and offers a variety of beers as well as apple and pear ciders, not to mention their infamous Hard Lemonade. Guided tours of the working microbrewery are available, as are BBQ facilities to grill your own lunch.

Over the other side of the Riverland, Caudo Vineyard at Hogwash Bend produces a refreshing lager and a sassy sangria, as well as a range of wines grown in the rich soil. If you’re after a bite to eat with your brew at Caudo, grab a local tasting platter and nibble away at local cured meats, cheeses, bread, olives, stuffed peppers, homemade relishes and dukkah made from locally-grown pistachios and almonds.

Almost a third of Australia’s wine grape production happens here in the Riverland and the region is also home to the southern hemisphere’s biggest winery and distillery, Berri Estates. Visit the cellar door before heading to 919 Wines at Glossop and experience the other end of the wine industry spectrum - a family company producing small batch organic wines

Rediscover the Riverland

Clock on to river time: a relaxed pace of living where the days stretch before you. The next boat departs whenever you want, lunchtime is whenever you're hungry and checkout is whenever you wake up. Stunning conservation parks, a thriving fruit industry and the beautiful Murray make the Riverland a great place for a family holiday, but you be the judge. Captain your own houseboat and cruise past ochre-coloured cliffs or hire a canoe or kayak and paddle your way through the secluded backwaters of the Murray River.
