He is regarded as one of the leading authorities European wine in Australia, specialising in Italian wine, and is responsible for iconic names like Marchesi di Gresy, Bruno Giacosa, Bartolo Mascarello, Giacomo Conterno, Giacomo Brezza, Fratelli Barale, Luigi Pira Giovanni Sordo and Kofererhof – and many more.  

Ridge shares his deep affection for Italian wine across varietals, with a particular interest in sangiovese and nebbiolo. He has visited each of the heartland areas of these varieties, Tuscany and Piedmont, more than 40 times.
