For over 3 decades David has either worked in, owned, advised or written about almost every aspect of the hospitality industry in Australia. He is regarded as one of the leading authorities in Australia on the wines of Europe, and especially of Italy.

David is responsible in Australia for iconic names like Marchesi di Gresy, Bruno Giacosa, Bartolo Mascarello, Giacomo Conterno, Giacomo Brezza, Fratelli Barale, Luigi Pira Giovanni Sordo and Kofererhof – and many more.

Over the years he has helped plan and shepherd into the Australian market many other great Italian and French names: Antinori, Gaja, Sassicaia, Guigal, Taittinger and Domaines de La Romanee Conti. He currently looks after some 40 producers from Europe mostly through different distributors, and imports some himself to “keep his hand in”.

David freely admits that his heart lies in Piedmont, and he loves to share this enthusiasm not only for his beloved Nebbiolo, but the other wines, Dolcetto and Barbera and the wonderful food and culture of Piedmont whenever anyone wants to listen. After his recent trip in January ’22 to Italy (which he vaguely estimates to be his 40th) David feels that he might be within years of understanding the whole thing!

David is also founder of club nebb, the society for the appreciation of all things Nebbiolo and Piemonte.
