Karena Armstrong is an acclaimed Australian chef renowned for her culinary expertise and dedication to creating authentic, regionally inspired dishes. Known for her meticulous focus on seasonal produce, Karena combines traditional cooking techniques with contemporary flavours, celebrating the bounty of South Australian ingredients. 

At Salopian Inn, she transforms local harvests into thoughtful, innovative dishes that highlight sustainability and community. Her approach is grounded in a deep respect for the land, working with local farmers and producers to ensure the freshest ingredients. 

Karena has been involved with Tasting Australia since 2014, first as festival talent and then Festival Director from 2022 - 2025. During her time with the festival Karena expanded the program, continued to highlight its focus on South Australian food culture and brought a diverse range of talent to tell our story. Karena’s leadership helped grow the festival’s profile nationally and internationally and drove the development of new products including TA By Train and The Canteen Series, bringing regional restaurants to Town Square.
