I came to Australia over 20 years ago. Being so far away from family, you look for things that bring you closer to the world you left behind. For me, that was food. Even the simplest dishes tasted better with nostalgia, but pierogi was the one I missed most — usually made together with my mum, anties or cousins.
I started searching for the right ingredients, and even finding the right potatoes without knowing much English was sometimes challenging, sometimes hilarious. My kids loved them, and my friends gave me such lovely feedback. One day, I took my pierogi to Dom Polski for a tasting, and that’s how Pierogi Sundays began, along with my little Basia’s Pierogi.
