About Bernice…
A rebel heart born to a medical family in Georgetown Malaysia, Bernice Ong, chaffing against her family expectations, has charted her own unconventional path in the world of wine for almost 30 years.
With a Commerce degree under her belt (to appease her parents 😬) and the fresh eyes of an outsider on the puzzle of the wine industry, she has sold, judged, grown, marketed, and made wine ever since. From her time working with the great importers of fine European wine and coupled with many more years taking Australian producers to the world comes a uniquely global but intensely personal perspective of how liberating and beautiful wine can be.
She founded Ministry of Clouds together with her partner in 2012, a modern, diverse, inclusive, and free-spirited winery in McLaren Vale.
Celebrating a suite of old bush-vine Grenache vineyards, storied cool climate Adelaide Hills sites, and her own 11-hectare home in McLaren Vale, Ministry of Clouds makes mid weight, savoury, gastronomic wines that grace the tables of restaurants all around the world.
She relishes being on the tools in the winery, sharing her wares to interested palates, and in her non-existent 😜 down time, you can find her in a kitchen whipping up a feast.
