Born in Australia and raised in Canada, Cooper first entered the wine industry shortly after finishing high school, taking part in a vintage in Victoria. A subsequent vintage back in Canada deepened his interest, ultimately inspiring him to enrol in the wine program at the University of Adelaide.

After completing his degree, armed with growing knowledge and a strong passion shaped by an inspiring cohort, Cooper spent several years working and travelling overseas, gaining valuable experience across different wine regions.

Then in 2022, returned to Australia and founded Oria Riff in the Barossa Valley, beginning with just a few barrels of Grenache and Shiraz. Following two vintages in the Barossa, Cooper relocated fully to McLaren Vale in 2024. The brand is grounded in thoughtful organic farming and a slow, considered approach to winemaking. Fruit is sourced either from respected organic grower Fiona Wood or from vineyards Oria Riff leases and manages across the sandy hills of McLaren Vale.

Alongside developing his own label, Cooper work as a contractor for Fiona and other local growers, continuing to expand his knowledge of organic viticulture in the region. Outside of work, you’ll find Cooper enjoying the nearby beaches down South.
