Leanne Altmann is a sommelier and wine communicator based in Melbourne.
A 2009 Len Evans scholar and perpetual student of wine, Altmann holds the WSET Diploma, where she was the top Australian graduate, and was dux of the Court of Master Sommeliers Advanced Certificate. She continued her practical wine and service education as the recipient of the Negociants Australia Working with Wine Fellowship, the Ruinart Sommelier Challenge and the 2018 Vin de Champagne Award. In 2019 Altmann was named Sommelier of the Year by Gourmet Traveller.
A passionate wine educator, she is a certified educator with the Wine and Spirit Education Trust and runs levels two and three in wine for her teams. Altmann has experience judging in regional and capital city shows, and has been named the next chief of judges for the Australian Alternative Varieties Wine Show.
After joining Melbourne restaurant Cutler & Co. in 2009 Altmann was part of the Supernormal opening team, and has been in her current role of Trader House beverage director since 2017. A recent project was the opening of Gimlet, Andrew McConnell’s newest restaurant – and Gourmet Traveller Best New Restaurant 2022 – at Cavendish House, with Bar Gimlet and Supernormal Brisbane slated for 2023.
