A Bridge Between South Australia and Tasmania

Sun 17th May 2026 at 12:30 PM

$120

On Sunday, the 17th of May, Station Road is to host a Dalrymple lunch hosted by Pete Caldwell. During this lunch, guests will be able to indulge in a 4-course menu matched to 8 Dalrymple wines.

Dalrymple, the Tasmanian winery owned by South Australia’s Hill-Smith family, is unequivocally one of Australia’s great wine producers.

Tasmania’s rugged coastal beauty and cool climate terrain first ignited a passionate pursuit to craft the perfect single site wines back in 1987. Such inspired the founding of Dalrymple Vineyards on the sloping hill of Pipers River, overlooking the Bass Strait. Since then, people around the world have fallen in love with the Tasmanian landscape, wild and breathtaking, and the finest Pinot Noir and Chardonnay that thrives there.

From every patch of land comes the demand for meticulous attention that, when granted, awards exceptional wines. Mother Nature calls the shots, and you can taste it. During this lunch, a menu featuring South Australian produce will be paired with a selection of Dalrymple wines while Pete will take a deep dive into the similarities and the differences in terroir, climate and wine regions between these two great states.

Pete was raised on his parents’ Tasmanian sheep farm before winemaking captured his heart. After studying the craft at Roseworthy Agricultural College, Pete took flight, gathering many-an “aha” moments across Burgundy, Bordeaux, California and New Zealand.  He’ll never forget his first vintage overseas, tasting juice straight off the press at a chateau in Bordeaux. “It showed me just how great wine can be when it’s not pushed or forced,” he says. “And if it’s the right variety, grown in the right place, and made in the right way. After more than 20 years in the industry and a decade here at Dalrymple, Pete’s sense of adventure shows no sign of waning. “I got out of the comfort zone early in my career,” he says. When he’s not making wine, you’ll usually find him fishing or cooking up nature's bounty.
