Not everyone is up for making wine outside a defined region – for trusting their instinct, unconstrained by tradition or consumer expectations. Owen Latta relishes the challenge. At just 16 he led a vintage at his parents’ label Eastern Peake, stepping in after his father was injured in the winery. And while his day-to-day has shifted since, the momentum that experience ignited has only gathered pace.  

Join this Young Gun of Wine 2025 finalist as he shares highlights from both Eastern Peake – based in elevated ultra cool-climate terrain near Ballarat and specialising in chardonnay and pinot noir – together with his lo-fi label Latta Vino. It’s here he explores emerging varieties and unconventional techniques, skilfully walking the line between heritage and new horizons.   

Frome Street bar Honeydripper will host this deep dive beside its Japanese-style listening lounge and vinyl library. Featured drops are set to include Eastern Peake’s 2022 Block 1989 pinot noir, awarded 98 points by Wine Pilot critic Shanteh Wale and considered one of Australia’s best.
