Walking away from Wall Street is a big call. André Heuston Mack left an investment banking career to follow his passion for wine, starting as a San Antonio sommelier and going on to win the Chaine des Rotisseurs Young Sommeliers Competition. He worked with Thomas Keller – first at The French Laundry and then Per Se – before upping the ante once again through the launch of his label Maison Noir, produced in collaboration with notable growers worldwide.   

There’s more – including Mack’s design work and a memoir charting the adventure – all of it underscored by his skill in sharing the magic of eating and drinking well in ways that resonate with connoisseurs and casual diners alike. It seems fitting that a man originally inspired to learn about wine by classic sitcom Frasier weaves hip-hop, punk and wider cultural cues through his work, always reminding us that enjoyment is the point.
