Lunch at Good Neighbour - Josh Cooke x Choice Mushrooms

Come autumn we crave comfort. The soup pot comes out. The slow cooker makes its return. And mushrooms – brought forth by the warm, damp earth – delight us anew.  

Josh Cooke will collaborate with the Fleurieu Peninsula’s Choice Mushrooms for this seasonal lunch. Expect produce-driven fare akin to the standouts he crafts as executive chef of the Favaro Group, responsible for acclaimed Adelaide venues including Chianti and Rozelle’s.  

Cooke has been a journey. Born in the UK, he was introduced to the world of professional cooking through summers spent at his uncle’s Maine fine diner, then joined family in a move to Cornwall and further expanded his culinary horizons. A start at the luxe Hotel Tresanton was followed by work as apprentice to Rick Stein, time in Paris under Jean-Francois Piege and a stint alongside Heston Blumenthal at The Fat Duck.  

On Antipodean shores Cooke’s resume includes Bannisters, Quay and four years as head chef of Orana alongside the late Jock Zonfrillo. It was this latter role that prompted him to settle in South Australia for good. His work today features the generous flavours of Italian fare across dishes that are still distinctly local.
