Matchmakers - Grenache

Meet your match in these casual tastings. Each features a diverse lineup of winemakers from South Australia and further afield, ready to chat all things variety, vintage and very excellent vino. Treat it like speed dating: five minutes in conversation, then a chance to strike up a chat elsewhere.

Grenache just keeps getting better. It flourishes in South Australia’s heat and spells, with standout producers offering texture, aromatics and liveliness in every medium-bodied bottle. The Barossa and McLaren Vale are local strongholds for this versatile variety. Here we have eight grenache gurus ready to chat through its charms.  

Seppeltsfield chief winemaker Fiona Donald will be joined by The Cutting’s Belinda van Eyssen to explore the qualities of Barossa grenache, while McLaren Vale is set to be represented by Skye Salter of Paralian, Inkwell Wines’ Irina Santiago-Brown and SC Pannell sales manager Crispian Fielke. Also on deck: Thistledown Wines director Paddy Gilhooly – fresh from his label winning best wine at the latest McLaren Vale Wine Show with its Sands of Time 2024 Single Vineyard Blewitt Springs grenache – and Alice Tremayne, restaurant manager of Sydney favourite Corner 75.
