Under One Sky

Gather inside Tandanya, Australia’s oldest Aboriginal-owned and operated cultural centre, for an evening of fire, music and art in celebration of Kungkarrakalpa Tjukurrpa, also known as Seven Sisters Dreaming. Chefs Mindy Woods, Duncan Welgemoed, Sarah Glover and Alex Crawford will be joined by South Australian winemakers Sue Bell and Pauly Vandenbergh, together with members of Umoona Art Centre in Coober Pedy. Be immersed.  

Woods, a proud Bundjalung woman, is among the nation’s most influential culinary figures: a chef, cookbook author, campaigner and educator. She was named a Champion of Change by the World’s 50 Best Restaurants Awards last year for her contribution to community through food – the first Australian to receive the honour – and offers cultural and culinary experiences with Karkalla on Country near Byron Bay.   

Welgemoed and Glover, meanwhile, share the open flame as muse. Discover their celebrated touch through fire-driven mains, experienced as part of this multi-layered dinner. Adelaide diners know Welgemoed best for his magnetic Africola in the city’s east, while Glover divides her time between Sydney and the United States, shaping al fresco feasts guided by a sense of adventure.  

Rounding out the lineup is dessert whiz Crawford, whose Sugar Man patisserie in Adelaide’s Hutt Street was recently relaunched to offer a delicious range of artisan gelato.  

There will be paired wines from Coonawarra-based Bell, whose Bellwether label offers classic varieties together with emerging Mediterranean options. Joining her will be fellow Aboriginal winemaker Vandenbergh, a Wirangu and Kokatha man, sharing selections and stories from his Adelaide-based label Munda Wines.  

Tandanya already feels beautifully separate from the nearby urban bustle. But here – for one very special night only – it transforms again.
