A morning coffee, fresh-baked croissant and new recipe book to peruse. Sound like heaven? The Book Café was made with you in mind. Meet in Good Neighbour, at the northern end of Town Square, as MasterChef Australia judge Sofia Levin welcomes culinary and beverage stars to join her in conversation. We’re talking career paths and roads less travelled, pinch-me moments and lessons taken from time in top international kitchens. Guests will share behind-the-scenes stories and the inspiration for their latest books, available for purchase within this welcoming space.
Welcome in. Sofia Levin will host an immersive, wide-ranging conversation with four culinary thinkers: Mindy Woods, Sarah Glover, Nikalene Riddle and Duncan Welgemoed.
Woods, a proud Bundjalung woman and chef-owner of the celebrated Karkalla on Country, is based in Byron Bay. She was named a Champion of Change at the latest World’s 50 Best Restaurants Awards – recognition of her work to share culture, land and history through food.
Adventure and food have long propelled Sarah Glover. Her career began between Tasmania and Sydney, followed by a move to Brooklyn in pursuit of new opportunities. Today she works in both Australia and the US, creating world-class sustainable fare and cooking outdoors for the likes of Martha Stewart and Gordon Ramsay.
Riddle, meanwhile, is a recipe developer and award-winning cookbook author who works from her Adelaide home. Growing up in an Australian Greek household beside a market garden and vineyard shaped her food philosophy – one centred on fresh, healthy flavours, family-friendly recipes and the flexibility to meet a range of dietary needs.
Welgemoed is best known for Adelaide restaurant Africola, the East Terrace gem where a wood-fired oven works overtime to shape a menu inspired by his South African homeland. Cooking with Fire, Welgemoed’s latest book, charts cross-continental barbecue culture and the joys of preparing food over the open flame.
Four trailblazers. One very special morning at The Book Café.
